As part of the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC), students design, manufacture, program, wire, test, and operate a 120-pound industrial-style robot each season to compete in a fast-paced international robotics challenge. Along the way, students also manage fundraising, business operations, marketing, outreach, website development, media production, sponsorship relations, and community engagement—making Bark Bots a truly multidisciplinary program.
Bark Bots is supported by dedicated volunteer mentors including engineers, technical professionals, educators, alumni, and community members who help guide students through the engineering design process, project management, business operations, and professional development. Mentors work alongside students to teach real-world skills, encourage critical thinking, and help prepare team members for future careers in STEM and industry.
The mission of FIRST is to inspire young people to become science and technology leaders by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build STEM skills, confidence, creativity, and leadership. Through this experience, Bark Bots students learn how to collaborate professionally, think critically, adapt under pressure, and contribute meaningfully to their community.
Beyond competition, Bark Bots is committed to growing STEM opportunities throughout our region. The team has helped support and initiate local FIRST LEGO League (FLL) teams in partnership with the local YMCA, helping introduce younger students to robotics, engineering, and teamwork at an early age.
Whether a student wants to become an engineer, programmer, machinist, designer, entrepreneur, marketer—or simply wants to learn something new and be part of a supportive team—Bark Bots provides a place to grow, create, and succeed together.
